As I begin to pursue one of the highest forms of academic study, PhD, I am in awe at the wealth of knowledge one can gain through on-going personal enquiry. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to undertake a professional investigation into a area I have committed and performed within for many years. I am equipped with new tools, particularly in reference to academic investigation, modes and methods of enquiry and the wealth of scholarly writers, individuals and academics who are reinventing the ways in which we view and appreciate dance.

One aspect of professional development through a Phd I personally value, is the capacity to siginifantly transform oneself. Not locked into one way of thinking or creating and therefore allowing for new theories to be transmitted in a variety of ways. Subsequently challenging the centrality of ones self identification with academic and creative practice. I am always working from a place of assumption whether it is through creative dance practice, video editing or academic enquiry. I have gathered that the most integral position one should approach creativity from is a place of openness with scope and capacity to adopt new ways of thinking and engaging with dance and performance.
