Social Media and Self Identity

Over the last couple of weeks I have been digesting the notion of social identification, predominately my own personal relationship with social media. I have restricted my use of social media, particularly instagram. Partly because of the development of InDance Barcelona 2020 and also due to the fact that I believe it is only necessary to continue with marketing through social media when you have a large project campaign.
I find that social media seems to blur reality, whilst speeding up our forms of communication, it removes aspects of our real identity and replaces it with another. Yes I agree that social media is a significant tool for all forms of marketing and communication but how much of what is communicated is really a part of our true SELF identity? Maybe 10% or even less??
Personally I will continue to use social media as a means to express what I want or need to communicate, furthermore I personally believe it is a place to reinforce ones aspirations and dreams into reality!! Magnetic fields propel information across the world to individuals of whom I have met online and via social media networks. New connections for a New InDance Barcelona 2020 are continually flowing....and it leaves me excited about what the future holds for my legacy and academic dreams.
I guess to sum up, we have several identities, all have a place and a function. I think it is important to recognise social media should not define our artistic development, practice or self identity. It is one method or a marketing tool, that if used wisely can allow for us to excel beyond ones expectations.
